AC Tune-Up in Tampa, FL

$75 fall tune-up — complete check-up, cooling & heating. Through Nov 30.

Indoor air handler serviced during a Mendoza Heating and Air tune-up

Here's the truth about AC tune-ups: most breakdowns we get called to started as a tune-up that never happened. A dirty coil, a weak capacitor, a drain line growing algae — small stuff, caught in about an hour, that would've saved someone a 9pm emergency call in July. The $75 fall tune-up is the cheapest insurance your system can get.

Our tune-up covers both sides — cooling and heating — because Tampa's fall is when systems switch over, and that's exactly when neglected heaters reveal themselves. We go through the full checklist below, show you what we found, and flag anything wearing out before it fails. No scare tactics, no "your system is about to die" unless it actually is.

Outdoor condenser serviced during a Mendoza Heating and Air tune-up

The $75 offer runs through November 30. After that, tune-ups go back to regular pricing — same thorough service, just not $75. If you've been putting it off, fall is the time.

How it works

Scheduling is simple: call (813) 770-2722 or book online and pick a window that suits you — morning or afternoon. A tune-up takes about an hour, and you don't need to take the day off; we work around you.

When the tech arrives, he'll run the full checklist below — electrical, refrigerant, airflow, drain, thermostat, the works. You'll get a straight report: what's healthy, what's wearing, and what (if anything) needs attention. If everything's fine, we'll say so — most tune-ups end with "you're in good shape," and that's a good outcome.

If we do find something — a capacitor reading weak, a drain line starting to clog — we'll show you, price it on the spot, and let you decide. No pressure, no "today only" pricing games. The tune-up is $75 whether we find nothing or find something.

What we find on tune-ups, wil's take

After hundreds of tune-ups, the same handful of issues show up again and again. Here's what we're really looking for.

Weak capacitors

The #1 thing we catch. A capacitor is a $15 part that starts your compressor and fan motors — and when it dies, the whole system stops. We test every capacitor's microfarad reading against spec; if it's drifting weak, we flag it. Replacing it during a tune-up takes ten minutes. Replacing it at 9pm on a Saturday in July costs you an emergency call.

Clogged condensate drains

Tampa humidity means your system drains gallons of water daily through one PVC line, and algae loves that line. We clear it, treat it, and check that the float switch (the little device that shuts the system off before it floods your ceiling) actually works. A surprising number of homes don't have one — we'll tell you if yours doesn't.

Dirty coils

The outdoor condenser coil sheds heat; when it's matted with dirt, cottonwood, and grass clippings, the system runs hotter, works harder, and costs more to run. We clean it properly — not a garden-hose blast that folds the fins, but a real cleaning. A clean coil can drop your electric bill noticeably in the first month.

Low refrigerant

Refrigerant doesn't get "used up" — if it's low, there's a leak. During a tune-up we check pressures and temperatures; if something's off, we'll tell you whether it's a slow seep worth monitoring or a leak worth finding now. Topping off without finding the leak is a yearly tax you'll pay forever — we'd rather find it once.

Electrical wear: contactors, wiring, connections

Heat and vibration loosen electrical connections over time, and a loose connection arcs, pits, and eventually fails — sometimes taking a control board with it. We inspect and tighten every connection, check the contactor for pitting, and look at wiring insulation. It's unglamorous work that prevents the dramatic failures.

What skipped tune-ups look like a year later

We can tell within five minutes whether a system has been maintained. The coil is matted, the capacitor is reading 20% under spec, the drain line has visible algae, and the contactor points are pitted. None of it failed yet — but all of it is on a countdown. The tune-up customer's version of the same system: clean coil, strong capacitor, clear drain, tight connections. Same age, same brand, completely different reliability. Maintenance doesn't make systems immortal, but it decides whether they fail at 3pm on a Tuesday (a tune-up visit) or 9pm on a Saturday in July (an emergency call).

Thermostat & controls

Thermostat & controls

We verify the thermostat reads accurately, cycles correctly, and that all modes work — cooling, heating, fan, emergency heat. With fall arriving, the heating side gets tested too, because the first cold snap is a terrible time to discover your heat strips have been dead since spring.

What a tune-up visit looks like

1. Book your window. Call or book online — morning or afternoon, about an hour on site.
2. Full-system check. We run the complete checklist: electrical, refrigerant, coils, drain, airflow, thermostat, heat side.
3. Straight report. What's healthy, what's wearing, what needs attention — shown to you, not just told.
4. You decide. If we found something, you get an on-the-spot price. Fix it now, schedule it later, or leave it — your call.

The full $75 checklist

$75 through November 30 — cooling and heating both covered, full written report, zero upsell pressure. Want it handled automatically twice a year? Our maintenance plans start at $199 and include priority scheduling plus repair discounts.

Questions & Answers

What does an AC tune-up include?

The full checklist: capacitor and electrical testing, refrigerant pressure checks, condenser coil cleaning, condensate drain clearing and treatment, float-switch test, electrical connection inspection, contactor check, thermostat calibration, and a heating-side test before winter. About an hour on site, with a straight written report of what we found.

How long does a tune-up take?

About an hour for a standard residential system. Larger homes with multiple systems or commercial equipment take longer — we'll tell you when you book.

How often should I get a tune-up?

Twice a year in Tampa — spring before cooling season and fall before the heating side gets used. That's exactly what our maintenance plans (from $199) schedule automatically, so you don't have to remember.

Does the $75 tune-up cover heating too?

Yes — cooling and heating both. Fall is when Tampa systems switch over, so we test the heat side during every fall tune-up. Finding a dead heat strip in October beats finding it on the first 50-degree night.

Is $75 really the price? What's the catch?

No catch — $75 through November 30, full checklist, same thorough service. If we find something that needs fixing, you'll get an honest on-the-spot price, but the tune-up itself is $75 whether we find nothing or something.

My AC is running fine. Do I still need one?

That's exactly when you want one. Tune-ups are for catching the weak capacitor, the clogging drain, the drifting refrigerant charge before they become a no-cool call. The systems that 'run fine' until they don't are our most common emergency calls.

Do you tune up commercial systems?

Yes — rooftop units, split systems, and refrigeration-adjacent HVAC for restaurants, offices, and retail. Commercial tune-ups are quoted by equipment, and maintenance agreements cover them on a schedule.
